- Spoiler:
These things always start innocently enough…
For most, it was the posters that attracted them west. Posted on every street corner, these (essentially propagandistic) posters promised wealth and lucrative returns for whoever journeyed out to California. Caught up in the spirit of the era, countless hundreds flocked to California. For some, the promise of making it big and striking rich drove them at high speed across the empty plains. For others, their motivations were perhaps a bit darker in nature.
If one word had to be chosen to describe all gold rush towns of the time, the proper word would probably be isolated. Surrounded by vast countryside in either direction, small isolated boomtowns sprang up about a mine and died down when the gold stopped flowing. With dangerous wildlife, the occasional robber, and vast distance of empty land separating towns, walking from one to another was never an option.
However, an equally valid word selection might be lawless. Times on the front were chaotic at best, with local disputes ending in bloodshed fairly often. The leaders of the town were those who could afford weapons. The ones who grew rich were the men and women who could survive in these rough conditions and come out on top. The weak were trampled. But not everyone who headed out west was looking for gold. Isolation, lawlessness, and political fragility can hold a different allure for some…
Of course, they say, hindsight is 20/20. It’s easy to see the signs now that bedlam has broken loose, but at the time nobody suspected a thing. The silver mine collapse was viewed as a freak accident at first. Then perhaps some saboteur, jealous of the mine’s success. Nobody imagined that the mine’s collapse had anything to do with the strange half-eaten animal corpses found around the town, or with the ‘prairie dog’s’ progressively louder howling each night. But the events of yesterday set everything in motion...
Reverend Walker preached to a small group of parishioners in New Harmony, Ca. Although certainly not the greatest at what he did, he had a real passion for his work and believed that “God’s plan would always prevail.” Walker earned both infamy and recognition by often digressing into abnormal tales that both alienated and amused his crowds. So when Walker told his parishioners about a chance encounter he had had the night before, with a wolf-like creature the size of a bear, it was laughed off as yet more proof that ‘ole Walker was finally going off his rocker. He had wounds to 'prove' his encounter, but of course people thought maybe he’d fallen and invented the whole wolf story. But Thursday the 8th changed everything. It was a full moon that night, and Walker was locking up his church doors before heading home. He was walking past the small squarish building that hardly deserved the title town hall when something happened; something that would mark the beginning of the most traumatic event to ever befall the region.
Witnesses report that Walker was scratching feverishly at his wound and was sweating profusely when he stopped dead in his tracks. The moon rolled out from behind a cloud and Walker began to stare. What happened next varies based on who you ask, but most witnesses agree that: A, Walker was responsible for the death of four townspeople that night, and B, he wasn’t quite himself while doing it.
Some say he grew four feet in seconds, other say it was no more than one. Some contest that his body was instantly coated in the thick coat of hair his body now sports, but others maintain that the hair didn’t grow until after he was put down.
Walker slashed three civilians to death and bit the fourth on the neck, who would die hours later in his own home, covered in blood soaked rags. But this fourth victim, a German immigrant by the name of von Hasselbach, managed to unholster his gun and fire a single silver bullet into Walker’s chest as he was tearing at his throat. The townspeople praised von Hasselbach and all tried their best to get him medical attention, but he was beyond help. Desperate and fully aware he was dying, von Hasselbach tried to speak. Bloody bubbles only escaped his throat instead. But with his last bit of strength, van Hasselbach managed to grab a piece of charcoal from a nearby table and scrape on the wall by his bedside:
"Wo es ein, es gibt noch mehr."
“Where there is one, there is more.”
Word got out quickly. Werewolves had moved into New Prosperity.
The next morning every horse in the town was found dead. Every wagon in the town proper was smashed and disbanded. Not only were the townspeople trapped, but the sheer amount of damage caused overnight meant that a significant enemy population was among them. Scared and concerned, the remaining 34 living members of New Prosperity met in front of town hall to draft a course of action. The following is what they devised:
Every day, the town will agree on one person to try and swiftly thereafter execute with von Hasselbach’s silver pistol. Many called for more than one per day, but because only 8 silver bullets were left, and the silver mines were of course in no condition to be mined, one per day would have to suffice until more silver was located. Once night falls, everyone is on their own. Townspeople were advised to lock their doors and meet with nobody. Their fiendish enemy would undoubtedly move at night. The process would be repeated until every last wolf was found and killed.
And so, dear reader, this is the scenario you now reside in. If you’re a villager, smoke out the traitors with clever detective skills. If you’re a wolf, you of course win when you successfully make lunch of the villagers. Either way, within a half hour or so, you should receive a private message describing what role you will possess in the upcoming game. Look up top for where it should say “You have one new message” or something to that effect.
I wish you all the best of luck, and would like to close with a quote from the wise Sun-Tzu:
”Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer.”
The Rules (see more...):

24 Villagers
-3 Masons
-2 Scries
-2 Baners
-17 Regular Villagers
8 Wolves
-1 Beast
-1 Devil
-6 Regular Wolves

Rules regarding neutrals:
The two neutral players are not supportive of either wolves or villagers and their sole purpose in life is to kill the other neutral, of whom they are told the identity of in their starting PM. The neutral that survives longer than the other neutral "wins" his little side-game thing. The game continues as normal after a neutral win.
Day Cycle: 24 hours
Night Cycle: 24 hours
This may be adjusted if participation falls short or many people complain, we're flexible about this. Pay close attention to the host's time posts regarding how long the cycle will last.
Dead people cannot post anything vote-influencing in the topic/Graveyard/PMs/etc.
Scries have a climbing percentage of accuracy.
Primary Scry - 75% base accuracy
Secondary Scry - 50% base accuracy
Scrying the same person consecutively between nights will increase the accuracy by 25% for that person, maxing out at 95%.
Baners can only protect a villager from 3 wolf votes max.
The Beast's vote only counts as 2 when calculating banes.
Banes stack.
Two wolves that attack the same person at night are put in contact with each other even if the attack is not a majority vote.
If one wolf attacks another, they are NOT put in contact with each other.
Villager scry results will only return teams (villager/wolf) while the Devil will also return role (primary scry/secondary scry/baner/mason/regular villager).
People will be autolynched if they do not vote for 2 consecutive Day cycles.
